New packaging design for trap-seal
Overview
I created a modern packaging design for the DEKS Trap Seal that clearly communicates the product’s key capabilities. The final design features a strong shield icon that represents everything the product protects against, including bugs, odours, and toxic gases.
Design Decisions
The packaging was designed to communicate the Trap Seal’s purpose as quickly as possible. The shield became the central visual element, symbolising protection, while the three colour-coded icons highlight the product’s key benefits: stopping bugs, blocking bad odours, and preventing toxic gases from entering the home.
I chose a transparent container so the customer could see the product before purchasing, helping build confidence in the product while keeping the design clean and modern. The colourful water graphics add energy to the packaging and visually reinforce that the Trap Seal is designed for drain and waste applications.
To make the packaging more memorable, I added a transparent blue insert to represent water and placed plastic bugs inside the base. This creates a fun surprise when customers pick up the product while also demonstrating one of its main functions—preventing bugs from coming back up through the drain.

Personal Growth
This project helped me improve my ability to turn technical product features into clear, easy-to-understand visuals. It also gave me more experience with packaging design, layout, icon creation.
Overcoming hurdles
Designing the Trap Seal packaging meant balancing strong shelf appeal with clear communication. Instead of relying on large blocks of text, I used a bold shield graphic, colour-coded icons, and supporting visuals to explain the product’s key benefits at a glance. Keeping the product visible through the transparent packaging also helped build confidence while maintaining a clean, modern design.
